Android Studio Rabbit 2 makes external coding agents available in its stable release
Developers can choose an agent with access to Android Studio’s emulator, build tools and logs.
Google’s October 28 announcement names Claude and Codex among the coding agents available in Android Studio Rabbit 2. Developers can select their preferred agent in the agent window, authenticate and then send their first prompt. This gives them a choice of coding assistant inside the development environment.
For terminal workflows, the Android CLI documentation describes a command-line interface that an agent or script can use to build, install and run an app on a connected device or emulator. Installation begins with downloading the tool, followed by android update to obtain the latest version. Running android init installs a skill: guidance that helps an agent understand and use the CLI. The documentation also points agents to Android skills and specialized Android knowledge.
The preview command reference describes a more specific task: turning Jetpack Compose functions marked for previews into images. The command operates on an Android target on the host computer, without a running phone, emulator or Android Studio. The android preview list subcommand discovers the available preview functions. The android preview render subcommand builds the target and renders one or more of those functions into PNG images, optionally also exporting the component tree as a JSON file.
