Open WebUI
A self-hosted chat interface for connecting local and cloud models.
Visit official websiteOpen WebUI offers a self-hosted interface for local and cloud AI models, with Python extensions. It is an option for people who want to operate their own interface while choosing the model behind it.
The connection guide requires a running instance and administrator access. For local and hosted models together, you also need a reachable local server and the hosted provider’s API key. Test each in a separate conversation. Our suggested exercise is to ask both to explain one familiar term and check each answer against your own definition. Multi-Model Chats sends the same prompt to selected models. Cloud selections send the prompt and included context to that provider; a local model does not make separately configured cloud tools or embedding services local.
The compatible-provider guide includes DeepSeek. In Settings → Admin → Connections, add a connection with the provider URL and your API key, then save. For DeepSeek it specifies https://api.deepseek.com/v1 and automatic model discovery. Saving the connection does not test it: Verify Connection checks the provider’s model-list endpoint. This interface still needs the provider connection; installing it does not supply hosted model access.
