You.com launches Inference Router with provider failover

The shared model API sends requests to You.com’s own capacity first, with partner providers available when it is unavailable or full.

You.com announced Inference Router on October 22, 2026 for teams moving AI applications into production. Its routing service initially uses the company’s own model-serving infrastructure. According to You.com, requests switch automatically to a vetted partner if that capacity is unavailable or saturated.

The integration overview describes one You.com API key and a common service address. An API is the interface through which an application requests a model response. OpenAI-compatible chat completions and Anthropic-compatible messages have separate endpoints. Existing clients for those interfaces can connect by changing their base URL and key; developers still choose the appropriate endpoint for their application.

For /v1/chat/completions, the web-tool documentation describes server-operated search and page extraction. The router executes the searches and fetches requested by the model, which receives numbered sources and writes the answer. Sources appear in web_results: absent if no search or fetch ran, or delivered in the final chunk when streaming.

On this endpoint, client:web_search returns a tool call for the application to execute. The server-tool configuration allows one search tool and one extraction tool; duplicate declarations are rejected.

MarkTechPost’s coverage presents You.com’s account of the problem: teams experimenting with models face additional requirements, including security review, when preparing production use. This is the company’s explanation of the market it targets.
