GitHub Copilot combines code completion and chat assistance, with additional agent and code-review capabilities in supported offerings. Access and controls vary by plan and environment.
Begin with a bounded change
Ask it to explain a function or propose a small change in an existing project. Read the diff and run the relevant checks before accepting it. Keep the intended behavior explicit so you can judge whether the change solves your task.
Try it: a CurioFuse exercise
An original editorial exercise with a checkable outcome.
Give a function a checkable contract
CurioFuse fictional code task: a function receives a list of stock movements and must total the signed quantities. Use inputs 5, -2 and 0; the expected total is 3. An empty list must return 0. Ask for an explanation of the existing function and the smallest change needed, keeping the public interface unchanged. Inspect the diff and run those cases yourself; also reject silent conversion of invalid text unless the contract explicitly allows it.
This exercise suits a bounded code change before a larger refactor. These are expected results for invented examples, not evidence that Copilot's proposed code passed tests.
