Ask questions about reusable documents in Cherry Studio
Build a reference collection and check its retrieved passages before relying on answers.

Choose reusable material
The knowledge-base overview describes a reference collection for material consulted repeatedly, such as manuals, policies or project notes. For a single attachment, direct chat may be simpler. A knowledge base retrieves relevant passages rather than replacing the source documents. Our suggested starting exercise is one short product manual that you expect to consult again.
Import, then check retrieval
Follow the setup guide: create a named knowledge base, initially leave embeddings disabled, and add the manual as a file. Embeddings are optional models for matching meaning. After processing, inspect the extracted text and its smaller sections, called chunks, for omissions or garbling. In Recall Test, ask a question whose answer you know from the manual. Check that the correct source and the relevant conditions appear. Finished processing alone does not establish retrieval quality.
Verify the answer
The chat guide requires a tool-calling model, ready material and no attachments on the current message. After recall passes, select the base through the input’s add button and confirm its name appears. Ask the same question using only that collection. Verify the cited passage, source and conditions; missing information must remain unspecified. The model receives retrieved snippets, not automatically every document. If recall fails, fix the material or retrieval before adjusting the prompt or model.
Try it: a CurioFuse exercise
An original editorial exercise with a checkable outcome.
A recall check with a known answer
Write this fictional note into a TXT file named demo-handover.txt: “Project Cedar. Owner: Mira. Draft due: 6 November. Publication requires approval from Leon. Publication date: not agreed.” Add a second section headed Old proposal: “Earlier draft date: 3 November; superseded by the current handover.” This is invented practice material.
Use Recall Test with this question:
What is the current draft deadline, who owns it, and what must happen before publication? Show the supporting passage. Distinguish the old proposal from the current handover.
A useful retrieval includes the current handover and its approval condition. A passage containing only 3 November fails this question even though it mentions a deadline. After checking retrieval, ask the same question in chat. The expected content is Mira; 6 November; Leon's approval; publication date unspecified.
If the answer invents a publication date, inspect the retrieved passage before changing models. Your decision is whether this collection supports the actual handover question, not whether importing the file completed.
