ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini? How to choose for a work task

You have meeting notes to turn into an action list. Start by checking which assistant can use your source material, then compare the same task in each. The corrections you need will tell you more about the fit than a general ranking.

Start with the information your task needs

In ChatGPT, you can attach documents, spreadsheets and other supported files, then ask for a summary, comparison or reworked draft. OpenAI’s guide also describes web search and connected tools; availability depends on your account and workspace settings.

For ongoing work, ChatGPT projects keep related chats, files and instructions together. That makes a reusable brief worth including in your comparison if several outputs must follow the same background.

Claude’s projects also accept reference documents and project instructions. Put the reference brief into project knowledge—the shared material used by project chats—so the information is available across those chats.

If the task needs current public information, Claude offers web search with source citations. Team and Enterprise workspaces require an owner to enable access.

If your inputs live in Gmail or Drive, Gemini’s connected Workspace apps are worth checking first. For work accounts, this requires an eligible Workspace edition, the Keep Activity setting turned on and administrator approval for connected apps.

Gemini also supports file uploads and analysis. Google cautions that large uploads can lead to missed details or connections. For a document-heavy task, include checks from the beginning, middle and end of your file.

Give each assistant the same small job

Imagine this invented meeting note: ‘Maya will check the supplier quote; no deadline agreed. Leo will send the draft on Friday. The launch date remains undecided.’ Paste that exact text into a new chat in each product, followed by:

Turn these notes into an action list with task, owner, deadline and the exact supporting sentence. Mark missing information as ‘not stated’. Keep decisions separate from suggestions.

Use the same language, input and instructions. Record the selected mode and any extra tools, so you can interpret differences. The example is fictional; use it as a repeatable exercise.

Choose by the corrections the work needs

Check whether Maya’s missing deadline stays missing, Leo’s Friday survives and the undecided launch date remains open. Then ask each assistant for the same revision: make the list shorter while keeping every owner and deadline.

Compare factual corrections, effort to trace an item back to the note, and how easily the result fits your next step. For a first trial, one short note is enough. For your actual workflow, repeat with an approved representative file and the connections you would use: the useful choice may change when the task changes.
