Prepare the local model

This exercise assumes LM Studio and Chatbox are installed on the same computer. LM Studio’s offline guide distinguishes downloaded models and the local server from operations requiring internet access. Obtain the model files before disconnecting: model discovery, downloads and runtime updates need connectivity. This statement concerns LM Studio; it does not establish how every optional integration behaves.

Connect the applications

Follow the Chatbox connection guide: enter LM Studio’s Developer mode and panel, enable the server and check that its status is running. Copy the displayed API Host. In Chatbox settings, select LM Studio under Model Provider and enter that address. Downloaded models should normally appear in the model options. The guide’s additional network-sharing steps concern connections from another device.

Try a bounded writing task

The product guide includes writing among Chatbox’s uses. Our suggested exercise: enter an invented note saying a workshop is on Monday and its room is undecided. Ask for a polite invitation without adding details. Check that Monday remains unchanged and no room is invented. This is an illustrative check, not a tested result or reliability guarantee. Chat history can be exported as Markdown, HTML or TXT. See the Chatbox profile for product context.

According to the storage explanation, Chatbox stores messages and settings on the device. However, selecting its cloud model service sends messages, context and uploaded files to that service, where temporary storage may occur. Local chat records therefore do not themselves mean that processing stays local.
