AWS assembles evidence for engineering part reviews
An AWS example combines specification checks and visual retrieval while leaving substitution decisions with engineers.

Evidence before a decision
AWS describes an assistant for reviewing replacement aerospace parts, using a synthetic catalog. Python rules compare specifications against requirements; image similarity supplies additional evidence. The assistant drafts assessments without recommending or approving a substitution. Engineers retain that decision. This distinction matters when interpreting the demonstration: a similar-looking component is supporting material for review, while the fit verdict comes from the specification comparison.
What visual retrieval means
The embedding documentation explains the retrieval building block. Nova converts text, documents, images, video and audio into numerical vectors in a shared space, placing similar content closer together. That supports searching across different media rather than matching only words. Applications include finding related content and retrieving material for AI answers. Developers can select vector dimensions to trade embedding accuracy against storage cost, and segmentation can produce separate vectors for parts of larger inputs.
How agent behavior is assessed
The evaluation documentation describes a separate assessment layer: instrumented agent traces are converted into a common format and scored by a language model acting as a judge. Built-in and custom evaluators support checking task performance, edge cases and consistency across inputs. The service integrates with Strands and LangGraph through telemetry libraries. Built-in evaluators are publicly accessible, whereas custom evaluation resources remain private unless access is explicitly granted through permissions.
